The mission church was built large enough to hold all the puebloans living here with the purpose of converting them. The walls sloping up from the ground toward the structure are two feet thick, the structure is impressive. There is a kiva on the "church grounds" which is a bit unusual. At one point, the pueboan people across a wide area (including this site) staged a coordinated revolt led by the Pecos Pueblo and many priests and spainards were killed. In the end, other forces were at work and the spaniards were driven out by settlers on the Santa Fe Trail, commercial interests, and cavalry defending them. This site was also used during the Civil War to shelter troops and their horses.

The remaining photos are all views of the church ruins.
